What is the Idaho Photographic Workshop (IPW) and why does it differ from a camera club?

The IPW is an art's organization dedicated to fostering the growth of awareness of photography as a fine art. Although photography is the media of choice for IPW it is not a camera club in the traditional sense.

The mission of IPW is to cultivate an atmosphere for exchange, learning, and creative expansion in the area of photography, and to provide educational opportunities in photography and related fine art forms in the State of Idaho.

Do I have need to have a special background in art or photography to join?


No. Membership is open to anyone who is expresses an interest in photography and photographic arts, regardless of their skill level. IPW is a great organization for budding photographic artists to meet and learn from more artistically mature trained members as well as a wonderful venue for more established artists to mix and enjoy the company of other like minded people.

How often and where does IPW meet?


Monthly meetings are held on the third Thursday at The Visitors Center of the MK Nature Center in Boise, unless otherwise noted. Meetings begin a 7:00 PM with Tips in Ten and programs at 7:15 PM.

What does it cost to belong to IPW?


The cost of membership is an incredible bargain! Annual dues are only $25.00! per year!

Are membership dues tax deductible?


Yes, IPW is a 501(c)(3)c organization. As such, its membership dues and contributions are tax deductible.

How long has IPW been in existence?


IPW is one of the oldest photographic arts organizations in the state. It was officially formed in 1985 and has been continuously active since then.

What activities does IPW undertake to meet its mission statement?


IPW presents learning opportunities, provides opportunities for members to exhibit their art, fosters an atmosphere of exchange and feedback on members work and interacts with other arts organizations to enhance and promote awareness of the importance of art in everyday life.

What kinds of workshops does IPW present?


IPW presents a variety of workshops to aid its members growth. Members of the organization teach some of the workshops, others are taught by outside artists. Topics range from the simple to the complex. They include but are not limited to such diverse topics as basic and advanced Photoshop, artistic growth, marketing, composition, natural and studio lighting, landscape, portraiture and abstract works.

What kinds of exhibit opportunities are available to IPW members?


IPW members participate in and/or organize a wide variety of exhibits. Opportunities are presented to members to show work in local business establishments, First Thursdays, Holiday Markets and individual shows. This year 18 members will exhibit their art at the newly remodeled state capitol building for 6 weeks. Past opportunities have included a traveling statewide art exhibit, local galleries and a mixture of other high profile venues. Several IPW members have been featured in CameraArt on-line edition.

When and where does IPW meet?

IPW meets the third Thursday of each month. In addition to print critiques and sharing of work, each meeting features an educational component.
