A Note from IPW President Brian Beall

As I reflect on 2011 with the IPW, I am reminded of the rich photography learning opportunities.
  •  Guy Hand and his reflections on his commercial photography experiences
  •  Andrea Scott's excitement with her Buckaroo Photography project during which she captures the local cowboy life
  •  Gay Bauwen's presentation on composition
  •  Gordon Bowie's presentation on the Light
  • Keith Walklet's presentation on Camera Obscura, and many others
I am very thankful the IPW has many veteran, and professional, photographers willing to share their wisdom and experience.
As I look forward to 2012, I expect more learning opportunities. The IPW Board purchased a new projector for our meetings. This will allow us to better view the digital images’ depth of color and contrast.
One learning opportunity of note is the ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) presentation
· When: Thursday, Jan 19th, 7pm to 10pm
· Where: Hotel 43 (981 Grove St, Boise)
· Cost: General Admission is $15
· Presenter: Pulitzer Prize-winning celebrity photographer Brian Smith
· Topic: Brian’s story of his innovative personal book project, Art & Soul. Combining photographs of celebrities with their thoughts about art, Art & Soul demonstrates how photographers can creatively explore new business models to stay profitable in a changing market.
· The Jan 19th IPW meeting is canceled; you are encouraged to attend the ASMP presentation
Thank you all for your contributions to the IPW.

Collecting the Dues

As the IPW membership has blossomed to over the past few years and activities such as our interactive website, exhibits and workshops have our volunteer board members busy with new and ever expanding efforts. The time has come to simplify something as basic as collecting dues. After much discussion and debate your Board agreed to make an adjustment to when Dues are collected. Beginning in Jan of 2012 dues for all renewing IPW members will be collected during the month of January. For new members joining before July1, 2012 the amount will be $25. For new members joining after July1, 2012 will pay $13. Delinquent IPW members will be charged the full $25 to keep their membership current.
